Familia Cinematica
Inspired by Roland Barthes's "Camera Lucida", the Photorealist artist Robert Bechtle, Modern Realist Painting (e.g. Edward Hopper & Gerhard Richter), & the cinematic framing. This series of paintings, which are sourced from my personal archive of family photos, cropped & enlarged, and reinterpreted in paint, which forced me to transport myself into moments that were not personally experienced, but be still and focus on the punctum of the beauty of the everyday that are commonly perceived as banal.
"Life is incredibly complicated, & the proof is that when you confront any simple, stopped part of it you are stupefied."
- Peter Schjeldahl ('Parked Cars', The New Yorker, 2005)
